This is a list of some of the best free serum presets that you can find online. These are great if you’re looking for some new sounds to inspire your creativity for new tracks.

Sarah is an amazing plugin, but due to this, countless music producers around the world use in serum on a daily basis to create new music. Many of them use the same stock presets, and therefore if you just rely on these presets, then you might create music that sounds very like something that’s already out there.

Also, you can use these presets and study them and try and figure out exactly how the sound designer reached a particular sound. It’s a great way to learn the ins and outs of serum.

All of the below resources offer free serum presets to the best of my knowledge. However, some of them may require email sign-ups. If you do find that any of these are no longer available or paid then please just drop me a comment below.

How to Install Serum Presets

It’s very easy to install serum presets using the following steps:

Press the Menu button and then press the “Show Serum Presets folder” button.
Go to the Presets folder
Press on the User folder
Drag and drop your presets into this folder. You can use one level of folders (i.e. Leads, Bass, etc) but you can’t create nested folders below this.

How to Use Serum Presets

You can use these serum presets, as the basis for your tracks or as inspiration for your own sound design. So you can also use them to just spice up a track that you were looking to try and finish.

There’s nothing particularly wrong with using presets if you are adding creativity in your own ways throughout the tracks outside of the actual sound design. For example, you may be more focused on the melody and the beat, and it’s less important to you to create all the individual sound design elements from scratch. You also may not be interested in getting into the nitty-gritty of synthesis.

Does Serum Have Good Presets?

Serum comes with many great presets, and the sky is the limit for tweaking them (and making them your own). There are some very useful presets that give you great starting points to build your sound on.

However, these presets have become very overused due to the popularity of the plugin. It’s a good idea to look for extra presets that you can use in your projects, while also serving as inspiration for new ways to approach sound design and to coming up with your own presets! It is a lot of fun, and can give you some very unique sounds that others may have not discovered!

There are many presets available for free or for money on the internet. A lot of these presets offer good value to people starting out with synth sound design because they do not need to learn synthesis theory in order to use them.
