First Impressions

Upon my first encounter with the Fender FA-125CE, I was immediately impressed by its solid feel and classic look with a gloss finish. The guitar is well-balanced and offers great playability, making it a suitable option for beginner guitarists.

Some features that stood out include the guitar’s electronics, which allow you to plug it in and use it for gigs, and the Die-cast sealed tuning pegs that ensure tuning stability. I think that beginners will hardly find any fault with this guitar.

Specs and Build Quality

The FA-125CE boasts a single-cutaway design with a laminated top, back, and sides, along with a Dreadnought body type. It features a nato wood neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 20 frets, and a vintage-style logo on the headstock. The guitar also sports a scale length of 25.3″, a nut width of 1.69”, and a laminated hardwood Viking-style bridge.

Given the guitar’s price range, the specs are impressive. The neck is comfortable and the overall durability seems to be on point, making it an ideal choice for gigging and traveling musicians.

Electronics

When it comes to electronics, the FA-125CE is equipped with a Fishman pickup, powered by a 9V battery. You have a 2-band EQ with bass and treble dials that allow you to easily fine-tune your sound, and the built-in tuner is always a welcomed addition. When tuning, your guitar is on mute so when you’re performing live, there won’t be any awkwardness.

Sound Quality

The guitar produces a clear and sharp sound, perfect for jamming, practicing, and playing live. The Fishman pickup and 2-band EQ make it easy to achieve your preferred sound, and the overall audio quality is excellent.

However, I did notice that the depth and fullness of the sound were slightly compromised, likely due to the single cutaway design. Usually, you don’t expect this from a dreadnought guitar but the issue is so minor that most would probably not notice it.

Alternatives

If you’re looking for alternatives to the Fender FA-125CE, you might consider the Yamaha FGX800C, which has a Sitka spruce top, Nato back and sides, and Yamaha System-66 electronics at a slightly higher price point.

Another option is the Yamaha APX600, featuring a Spruce top, Thinline cutaway body, and System 65A preamp piezo pickup. While also more expensive, it offers great value for the price. You can also check out my detailed video review of the Yamaha APX600 if you’re further interested.

Verdict

The Fender FA-125CE is a fantastic acoustic-electric guitar for beginners and developing players, offering an all-laminate construction, Fishman electronics, and an easy-to-play neck. Its clear and sharp sound, good build quality, and ability to stay in tune make it an option worth considering.
