Online Polyrhythm Generator
Compare evenly spaced pulses inside one shared cycle. Watch the patterns align and adjust each voice by ear.
Secure. Data stays in your browserVoice A uses a higher click; voice B a lower click. Change the volumes while playing. Pulse counts and cycle tempo lock until stopped.
Both patterns start together, spread their pulses evenly across the same cycle, and meet again at its beginning. In a 3 against 2 pattern, the first voice sounds three times while the second sounds twice.
Cycle BPM controls how many complete cycles happen per minute. It is not the tempo of either individual pulse stream. Mute one voice to learn its spacing, then bring the other back and listen for the common starting point.
Using the Polyrhythm Generator
Hear two evenly spaced pulse patterns inside the same repeating cycle. Learn each voice separately, then bring them together to hear where they align.
Instructions
- Choose Voice A pulses and Voice B pulses, then enter Cycles per minute.
- Set the two volumes and press Start polyrhythm. Use Mute voice A or Mute voice B to isolate one pattern.
- Watch each pulse row, then press Stop. Stop before changing pulse counts or cycle tempo.
Understanding the shared cycle
With 3 against 2, voice A plays three evenly spaced pulses while voice B plays two. Both meet at the start of each cycle. At 30 cycles per minute, one cycle lasts two seconds; that is not 30 individual clicks per minute for either voice.
What to do if the pattern is hard to follow
- Lower Cycles per minute and listen to one voice at a time before unmuting the other.
- Check both voice volumes and mute switches if a row moves but its sound is missing.
- Pulse-count and tempo settings are locked while playing. Stop before editing, then start the new pattern.
Tap each voice against the common cycle rather than treating them as unrelated metronomes. The tool demonstrates spacing and alignment without judging your own timing.
