Practice with an accented metronome
Choose the pulse in beats per minute and the number of beats in each bar. The higher click marks beat one when accents are enabled. A four-beat bar is useful for common time; three beats gives a waltz pulse. This tool counts the selected beats without assigning a time-signature denominator.
Build consistency at a comfortable tempo
Start slowly enough to play accurately, then raise the tempo in small steps. Listen for even spacing between your notes and the click. The browser schedules clicks ahead using its audio clock; background tabs, device changes and heavy system load can still interrupt playback. Playback stops when you leave the page or switch windows.
Using the Online Metronome
Set a steady pulse for scales, songs or rhythm exercises. Start at a tempo where you can play cleanly and use the accent to hear the beginning of each bar.
Instructions
- Enter Tempo (BPM) and choose Beats per bar. Enable Accent the first beat if you want beat one marked by a higher click.
- Set Playback level, check your device volume and press Start.
- Follow the numbered beat display while you play. Press Stop before leaving the exercise or changing the meter.
Matching the click to your music
At 120 BPM, each click is half a second apart. Four selected beats make a repeating four-click group. Beats per bar groups the pulse; it does not decide whether a written tempo marking refers to quarter notes or dotted quarter notes.
What to do if the click is silent or stops
- Check Playback level and your selected speaker or headphones, then press Start again.
- Keep the page active. Playback stops when you leave this page or switch windows.
- If you change the meter, start again after the change. Use a supported tempo between 20 and 300 BPM.
Listen for even spacing between your notes and the click. Increase the tempo only when the exercise stays controlled, rather than treating a faster setting as progress by itself.
