Great headphones

I mainly use the headphones when I'm streaming on YouTube [ EPICBONETHUG ]. The DT 900 sound for games like Escape From Tarkov, Red Dead Redemption and HUNT SHOWDOWN is very clear and spacious I can hear the smallest of sounds around me. The reason I gave it a 4 star is because I don't like the cable very much. When you turn your head to the left and you hit the cable on your shoulder it's stiff and it feel like it might break. Hope they come out with a better cable design that I can replace it with. That being said I love the sound and highly recommend this headphones.

So Far, So Good

I've had these phones on for a few hours now. Here's what I can tell you that I like about them so far.

Number 1. They sound very good. For a set, of what I would consider to be, mid-price range - professional level cans, I am satisfied with the sonic quality. It is as good as I expected it to be.

Number 2. They're comfortable to wear. I have a set of Sony MDR-7509s which I've had for probably about 20 years now. At the time I bought those headphones, they were about $, so they're in the same ballpark as the Beyerdnamics. My Sony cans still work and sound great, but they can also become a bit uncomfortable for me, should I need to wear them for extended periods. These new Beyerdynamic DT900s, weigh in about the same as the Sony's, but have ear cups which are deeper than those on my Sonys. So, at least for me, it makes for less pressure around my ears. Over a long mixing or listening session, that makes a big difference in comfort.

3. I like the fact that the cord on the Beyerdynamics is detachable, and thus replaceable. These even come with a spare cord as an included standard accessory. Both cords are also supplied with screw on style, 1/4" size adapters.

4. I also like the fact that the cord provided is straight, as opposed to a coiled cord...like on my Sonys. Straight cords are generally lighter in weight, though granted, perhaps not as compact as coiled cords, but also don't seem to present as much stress on the connector ends as heavier coiled style cords. For me, overall, the straight cord is easier to deal with, and isn't prone to getting tangled up, like coiled cords can be.

5. The Beyerdynamics come with an adequate storage bag. One which has room for the cans and the spare cord.

6. The build quality appears to be very good. I like the fact that Beyerdynamic, used metal construction for the frame and can supports, as opposed to plastic. They seem to be very sturdy.

Thus far, I haven't found anything negative about these cans. If that changes, I'll do an update.

Best self-gift ever!

I don't buy anything significant without reading (or listening to) a ton of reviews. While the reviews on this item were mostly all praise-worthy, I was still looking for something more--shall we say--revealing, from the standpoint of really "fussy" listeners. For better or worse, I'm a fussy listener, have been since I was a child. I'm looking for something almost magical in the listening experience. Well, guess what. These provide that experience. Let me see if I can nail it for you.

I'm a professional pipe organist, and the range on the larger pipe organs take you from below the normal realm of human hearing, to the very upper limits on the top end; pipes whose size ranges from about 32 feet in length and sometimes up to about 30" square, to an inch in length and less in diameter than a pencil; and from 16 hertz to frequencies pushing the 20,000 hertz mark. In fact, a couple of pipe organs even have larger pipes, hitting 8 hertz. In these headphones, not only can I hear them all, but I can hear these separate sounds in a spatial field that represents the space and height of the instrument in the recorded space. Pipe organs take up a LOT of space. One that I regularly played occupied about 70 feet high x 60 feet wide x 40 feet deep. And that's one of the thrills of pipe organs, the fact that music (i.e., pipes) played, spans a huge physical area. Surround that whole instrument with a massive reverberant building, and the building becomes part of the instrument.

So back to the headphones ... I fully expected to hear SOMETHING that would tell me I'm wearing headphones, but that was completely absent, no sense of technology wrapped around my ears, dead silence, just a vast sound field, more perfect that the monitors, and miles better than the very good headphones I'm replacing. These DT900 Pro X headphones are very comfortable, completely surround the ears, and I can hear everything in a way that will make applying plugins or mixing much easier. No range sounds over-represented to me, just ... REAL.

Astonishing performance at the price

The DT 900 Pro X are everything amazing about the DT 700 Pro X (Closed Back) but MORE. More depth, more soundstage, more openness, more presence.

Between the two pairs of headphones, I don't feel the need for anything else. My headphone "journey" is over for now.

Both the DT 900 Pro X and DT 700 Pro X are comfortable, extremely well-made, lightweight, professional and end-user serviceable.

They both have incredible, detailed sound with excellent transient response and deep sub-bass. They would be a good value at >$/ pair. At closer to $ a pair they are an incredible bargain.

They do not need headphone EQ to sound good, unlike some much more expensive models from other brands.

They are handmade in Germany by people who really care about the product and take pride in Beyerdynamic's 100+ year history in audio, and it shows.
