Build a progression from a key

Diatonic triads use only notes from the selected scale. In a major key the pattern is major, minor, minor, major, major, minor, diminished. Natural minor gives minor, diminished, major, minor, minor, major, major. Click a chord to append it; use the sequence controls to move or remove individual chords. Changing the key transposes the same scale degrees. Each chord receives four beats. Natural minor is used here: the major V chord common in minor-key songs belongs to harmonic minor and is not included in this diatonic set.

    Using the Chord Progression Builder

Arrange chords from a chosen key and hear how they follow one another. This gives you a starting progression without having to enter every chord name by hand.

    Instructions

    1. Choose Root note, Key type and Tempo (BPM).
    2. Add chords from the palette. Use the sequence controls to move or remove a chord, or Clear sequence to begin again.
    3. Press Play progression and use Stop sound when needed. Download TXT saves the chord chart and tempo.

    Reading the progression

In C major, I–V is C–G. The same degrees in D major become D–A when you change the root. Each chord receives four beats, so the sequence is a simple timing model rather than a complete arrangement with variable chord lengths.

What to do if a chord you want is missing

    • The palette uses diatonic triads from major or natural minor. A major V in a minor song belongs to another minor-scale treatment and is not included here.
    • Add at least one chord before playing or exporting. The sequence supports up to 32 chords.
    • Changing the key transposes the selected degrees. Check the new chord names before downloading your chart.

Use the progression as a sketch, then adjust rhythm, voicing and melody in your music project. A chord family is a useful starting point, not a restriction on your song.
