Using the Audio Converter & File Size Reducer

Convert a browser-supported audio file to MP3 for a smaller download, or to WAV for an uncompressed copy. Choose the output settings to suit speech, music or further editing.

Instructions

  1. Choose an audio file or drop it into the editor. Use Original to listen, or Try a studio demo to explore the settings.
  2. Select a preset, then check File format, Channels and Sample rate. Keep source preserves the source channel count; Mono mixes the recording down to one channel.
  3. For MP3, choose a bitrate and check the estimated output size. For WAV, choose the bit depth instead.
  4. Click Create my file. Listen with Preview output and check the final file details before clicking Download. Create the file again after changing any settings.

Choosing file size and quality

A lower MP3 bitrate makes a smaller file but may lose more audible detail, especially in music. WAV size depends on duration, sample rate, channel count and bit depth. The size estimate is a guide; the finished file details show the actual output. Converting MP3 to WAV or increasing its bitrate cannot restore detail already lost in compression.

What to do if conversion fails or sounds different

  • Input support depends on your browser's decoder. A supported file extension alone does not guarantee the audio inside can be opened; protected files cannot be decoded.
  • Try a shorter recording if the browser runs out of memory. These tools accept files up to 80 MB and 10 minutes, with an additional decoded-sample limit.
  • Check the channel setting if the stereo image changes. Mixing to mono combines both sides, which can weaken sounds that cancel when summed.

Encoding happens on your device without an upload. Keep the original for future edits, and avoid repeatedly converting between lossy formats when one conversion will do.
