The Southern Jumbo — a brief history
Gibson created the Southern Jumbo in the 1940s after a salesman for the southern territory brought home requests for a sturdy, versatile and attractive round-shoulder dreadnought. With elegant inlays, historical "banner" headstock, and exquisite "'hog" tone generated by its solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the SJ has become a Gibson classic. The Southern Jumbo Original retains the late '40's style and appointments that reflect the charm and style of the South.
