Capture an Elusive Classic Reverb

Want to capture an elusive classic reverb that's been used on countless hit records? Well, get the Eventide SP2016 Reverb plug-in, and you will. It's packed with six distinct reverbs, covering everything from true-to-the-original emulations all the way to tricked-out modern algorithms. Fine-tuning this plug-in is child's play, thanks to a series of Parameters sliders, while an EQ section gives you complete control over your reverb's frequency content. The SP2016 Reverb includes artist presets from Dave Pensado, Richard Devine, Joe Chiccarelli, Sasha, George Massenberg, The Butcher Bros., Buda and Grandz, and more to get you started.

This product requires that you have an iLok account for authorization, although it does not require a physical iLok key. Please call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer if you have questions.

The Eventide SP2016 — a brief history

The SP2016 Reverb plug-in is based on a classic hardware device of the same name. Introduced in 1982, the Eventide SP2016 was the first programmable effects box on the market. This unit was all the rage with top-shelf engineers, including Dave Pensado, George Massenburg, Alan Sides, Roy Hendrickson, Jack Douglas, and Mick Guzauski. Its natural, yet distinctive, sounds can be heard on countless hits from the likes of Talking Heads, Adele, Mariah Carey, Eminem, and more. The original SP2016 has the distinction of having introduced the concept of plug-ins to the pro audio world, by employing hardware chips that users plugged in under the hood.

Loaded with 6 distinct reverbs

With the Eventide SP2016 Reverb in your plug-in folder, you'll have access to six great-sounding reverbs. Benefit from authentic emulations of the hardware SP2016's Room, Stereo Room, and Hi-Density Plate algorithms. These reverbs are spot on, right down to the bit depth. Beyond that, you get Modern versions of each that deliver brighter and more diffuse sounds, and employ a higher bit depth. You'll appreciate the excellent sound quality of these reverbs. From their complex early reflections, to the natural density increases of their echoes, to the smooth Gaussian decay of their reverb tails, these algorithms are sure to inject your mixes with that "special something."

Controls for fine-tuning your reverb

Crafting the perfect reverb is a breeze with the SP2016. This plug-in's Parameters section gives you everything you need for fine-tuning your effect, including Mix, PreDelay, Decay, Position, and Diffusion controls. Beyond that, you get an EQ section for shaping your reverb's frequency content. At Sweetwater, we're particularly impressed by the SP2016 Reverb's Position control. With it, you can take your listener from the back of the room to right in front of the performer, all while retaining all of your other settings. Getting reverb to sit in a mix has never been easier!

Algorithms:

Each algorithm is available in Vintage and Modern versions

  • Room is a basic, no-frills ambient room. It's a mono effect with stereo outputs. Its extreme range of pre-delay makes it ideal for reverberant doubling and single echoes.
  • Stereo Room re-creates the ambience of a large concert hall with clear, natural-sounding reverberation. It's ideal for vocals, drums, acoustic guitar, strings, and horns.
  • Hi-Density Plate is a plate-type reverb with dual pickups simulating the effect of a bigger, heavier plate. Use it to add size and brightness to vocals, guitar, or percussive instruments.

Eventide SP2016 Reverb Features:

  • Based on the classic Eventide hardware device of the same name
  • Packed with 6 distinct reverbs — 3 vintage and 3 modern
  • Parameters sliders make fine-tuning your reverb a breeze
  • EQ section gives you complete control over your reverb's frequency content

Deceptively simple reverb

Originally I was unsure how good this reverb would be given how relatively simple it is. In the end this plugin is extremely versatile, and also sounds wonderfully rich. I also love the vintage algorithms for that classic 80s sound.

This old thing is my new favorite

This isn't the verb you put on a return track and send everything to it. You could, but... the secret to the SP2016 is the position slider that makes it simple to position elements in 3D space. Drop this plug on each track of your major elements and get lost in the fun of it. Sure, with skill, you can do this with any verb -- but SP2016 is a single slider that works such magic.

I'm a verb snob. I own or temporarily owned virtually all the popular options - from native and UAD plugins to rack and pedal hardware. What I value is a specific use case. A generic verb doesn't interest me much. In this case, Eventide SP2016 is my go-to for mixing elements for stereo mix dimension.

Fantastic Reverb Plugin!

Well...i was not expecting this plugin to sound sooooo good when i bought it. I just noticed that it was no longer $249, like when i first saw it....and figured...OK, i am willing to take a chance at the discount price I paid for it. I have the Blackhole plugin, and the UItra-reverb plugin from Eventide as well as a hardware Space pedal unit. In addition i have at least 20 other reverb plugins from Lexicon, seventh heaven, TSAR, etc...i must say, the stereo room default reverb that came up when i launched this plugin in my DAW just blew me away...i was playing a clean electric guitar track that i have been working on, and too my surprise, this is just what was needed to finish the piece. The sound quality is rich, natural, and very easy to dial in....l think i just found my new go too reverb plugin.

Eventide SP2016

Not as good as some of my other reverbs
Music background: Musician, producer

There are studio engineers at Sweetwater who personally remember when Eventide changed the game with their affordable digital processing. Many of us still own Eventide DSP boxes that go back decades, and we use them all the time, because they're still awesome. That's one of the reasons we're always happy to talk to customers who come to Sweetwater looking for killer hardware effects. And it's not just engineers - you'll find Eventide delays, harmonizers, and more on our pedalboards, adding shimmer and shine to our guitars. It's little wonder Sweetwater is one of the biggest Eventide dealers out there, and our relationship with Eventide continues to grow, especially as they expand into new fields like plug-ins, 500 Series gear, and Eurorack synth systems.
