Guitar Talkbox Effects and Vocal Polishing

From "Do You Feel Like We Do" to "Sweet Emotion" to "Livin' on a Prayer," TC-Helicon's Talkbox Synth delivers classic Frampton-esque guitar effects — without the awkward hose-in-the-mouth stuff. But that's just the beginning. Onboard synth sounds and a guitar-triggered vocoder add electrifying robotic vocal effects to your single-note runs. This stompbox isn't just for guitarists, however. Vocalists will appreciate its built-in mic preamp and Adaptive Tone feature, as well as studio-grade reverbs and pitch correction. And its streamlined 3-knob interface is a cinch to use — you'll be up and running in seconds. The Talkbox Synth adds excitement to any performance.

Vintage-style talkbox sounds with updated options

The sound of an old-school vocoder is legendary, but the effect has a pretty narrow repertoire. TC Electronic has blown the lid off that problem with the Talkbox Synth. You get classic talkbox tones, but you also get more modern vocoder sounds, a chorused mono synth, a chunky square wave synth voice, detuned synths, and more — all selectable with the large style knob on top of the unit. Want to customize the parameters? Simple, just select your style and hold the tone button while rotating the correction knob — left for quieter levels and right for louder levels of that effect.

Spot-on vocals made easier

Looking for a little help with the vocal melody? The Talkbox Synth Stompbox's correction dial is the simplest of the three knobs to use. It goes from off (all the way counterclockwise) to 100% (all the way clockwise). At the top-center position, the effect delivers nuanced pitch support without sounding artificial or unnatural. Note: Correction is NOT active while the Synth or Talkbox effects are engaged.

Go big — or not — with reverb options

Sometimes you're going to wow the crowd with lofty hall-sized reverb, and sometimes a more intimate, small-room feel is what's desired. The Talkbox Synth Stompbox accommodates everything from no reverb to Room, Club, and Hall effects — with nuanced adjustment available within each space selection range. And Reverb is unaffected by the status of the Talkbox Synth effect, so you don't have to fear a jarring loss of reverb while turning the talkbox or synth effect on or off.

Rugged build quality and road-ready power and I/O options

Ready to hit the road? A tough metal housing and studio-grade footswitch make this stompbox ready to go on tour. The default mode for the high-quality footswitch is latching style, but it can be changed to momentary operation by holding the tone button while you're powering up the pedal. To power the unit, you have the choice of using either 4 AA batteries or a 9-volt power supply. The Talkbox Synth Stompbox has a mic input, XLR out for your PA or powered speaker, guitar in for your guitar cable, and guitar thru to send your guitar signal out via 1/4" TS cable.

The talkbox — a brief history

If you've listened to Frampton Comes Alive, you're already familiar with the talkbox effect. These unusual devices use your mouth as a filter to shape the sound of your guitar. A talkbox consists of a box with a built-in speaker. The speaker feeds your guitar's signal into a plastic hose that you place in your mouth. Then you put your mouth near a microphone, make some vowel sounds (or speak complete sentences if you're really good) and voilà — the classic talkbox effect! While guitarists at Sweetwater enjoy making unique sounds with talkboxes, none of us are too thrilled about putting a plastic hose in our mouth. That's why we're stoked by the Talkbox Synth. It achieves those classic sounds without the unwieldy hose.

TC-Helicon Talkbox Synth Features:

  • Guitar talkbox and synth pedal with vocal effects
  • Create authentic-sounding talkbox guitar effects without the unwieldy plastic hose
  • Forge electrifying robotic vocal effects with onboard synth sounds and a guitar-triggered vocoder

  • Auto-chromatic pitch correction fixes pitchy vocal performances
  • Adaptive Tone delivers EQ, compression, de-essing, and gating
  • Built-in low-noise microphone preamp

No more nasty tube for me

In years past I used a banshee talk box but, never really got what I wanted from it so I sold it and just let the idea go. This pedal is so easy to use and, the talk options are really cool but, I will probably only use the 3rd setting guitar and vocal. Reverb is excellent and, lush if you want it. The tone button seems to add a little too much so I don't use it. Great idea put the guitar in and, mic and that's it you're ready to go. I would never go back to the tube setup, too much hassle and, didn't like the nasty tube plus the old style is a one trick pony compared to what you can have in this unit. The talk box thing obviously is an effect you won't use a bunch but, it's an attention getter and, adds that function in a song if you want it. Reasonably priced too.

This Talk Box is Absolutely The Bomb !

Ok ok I've been looking at this Talkbox for about a year and I finally gave in and bought it. I've been using an MXR Talkbox it's ok but sometimes it doesn't sound that great go figure. Anyway I degress, I'm happy to say this one is really cool and for the price I was shocked. Not only is it a talk box but it's also a synth and a Vocal Correction unit with Some Kicking Reverbs built into it.
So first off it takes a bit to get used to it because you are talking into the mic that's the tubeless magic your actually saying the notes it takes a little bit to get used to but once you do it's a nice change not having a tube sticking out of your mic stand and your mouth. Second the vocal correction is Killer that alone you'd pay over $100 bucks for. Also the reverb is absolutely stunning it sounds so good it runs on 4 AA batteries that last 3 sets might last longer if you shut the Unit off on your breaks. I suggest buying the AC adapter. I hate batteries lol off hand I'd like to say Sweetwater Rocks Great Price for a Great Unit not only that but I checked and no other music company sells this unit and yes I checked. Sadly your SOL cause your gonna have to wait till Spring 2023 maybe longer cause they are completely out of stock.but it's worth the wait if ya wanna ditch the tube

So Cool

This is such an welcomed part of my pedalboard. I don't use the Talkbox part very much, but the pitch correction is so nice and really cleans up the vocals. I wish every band used something like this in their performance. So the robot voice FX, but a simple correction just in case you are tired. It works so well that you can't tell it's on until you turn it off.

Epic Talk Box Sounds Without Drooling All Over A Tube!

I love this little metal box! This pedal, the TC-Helicon Talkbox Synth, is straightforeward and easy to use. Takes either 4 AA batteries, or a 9V power supply input. Instead of the usual tube straight to mouth setup for an analog talk box, the microphone will run straight into the mic input at the side of the pedal that faces away from you, and a second microphone cable will be run from the mic output of the pedal into a powered speaker, or in my case, one of the inputs of my Fender 40 Watt acoustasonic amp. The guitar input will run as usual from right side to left side. This pedal also has a direct output option with ground lift to remove noise if your preference is mixing board instead of speaker. To use the pedal's talkbox sound, you have to make noise with your mouth. This was a little silly at first, but it didn't take me long to figure out how to get the sounds that I wanted from it. You don't even need to match the pitch with your vocals, The pedal does the work for you! There are two options that allow both outputs to pass through, getting a cool dual sound with your rig on the guitar output and your new either classic or modern talkbox sounds on the other. The other settings on the pedal are single output, only exiting the pedal on the mic output line. The reverb is wicked cool and very useable which adds a lot to the experience. When the pedal is deactivated, there is an option to use the pitch correction function to make your dry vocals sound closer to pitch, which is nothing too overwhelming like in pop songs, more like the classic pitch correction used in studios, definately a plus with my lack of singing skill. Keep in mind that this is a pedal and not necessarily studio grade pitch correcton. All things considered, this pedal is going to be right at home on my board for the predictable future. Sorry that I've gone on about this for so long, but I'm excited. I didn't cover all the functions, just the ones that I bought it for. I've found that running an overdrive pedal before the talkbox synth is the way to go for that cool Frampton vibe. For the price, I would say that this is insanely good quality. This is one of my coolest pedals yet!
