Shape Transients Like Never Before
The original SPL Transient Designer caused a huge stir upon its introduction in 1998, but SPL has now upped the ante. Featuring the same Differential Envelope Technology (DET) and 4-channel level-independent processing qualities as its forerunner, the Transient Designer MK2 adds a new design and an even more stylish look and feel. Its 4mm thick black anodized faceplate, solid aluminum-milled knobs, and black powder coated high-quality steel housing look fantastic in any rack. Under the hood, you’ll find Neutrik XLR connectors with gold-plated contacts on all four channels and an electronically balanced signal transmission at a nominal +6dB level. And, as always, only two controls are needed to get incredible results with this brilliant device.

On the Attack
Sweetwater studio engineers repeatedly praise the SPL Transient Designer 4 MK2’s ease of use. Attack, one of only two controls needed, allows you to increase or decrease the transient response of a signal by +/- 15dB. Positive values indicate boosts, while negative values indicate attenuations. You can bet those snare drums will crack like you’ve never heard before!
Sculpt the Sustain
Next, the Sustain control extends or shortens the sustain phase of a signal by +/- 24dB. Similarly, positive values extend the sustain and negative values shorten it. This control lets you sculpt the exact amount of ring that you’d like your signal to have.
Process stereo signals
The SPL Transient Designer 4 MK2 also has some other useful features. With its Link function, you’ll also be able to process stereo signals by linking together channels 1+2 or channels 3+4, with the left channel becoming the master. Other valuable controls include an On switch for quick bypassing to compare processed and unprocessed signals; a Sig (signal) LED informs you if an input signal has a level greater than -20dB.
