Classic Precision Bass from Squier

The Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ puts classic P Bass tone and feel into your hands at an amazing price. Featuring a lightweight, resonant polar body, this bass guitar is friendly on the back for hours of performance. The combination of Precision and Jazz Bass pickups in this stellar bass gives you the vintage, gritty Fender tone that has won over so many players over the decades. And since each pickup has its own volume knob and master tone knob, you can tweak your tone to your preference. The Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ features a maple neck and a 20-fret laurel fingerboard for fast, comfortable playing and wide-open stylistic exploration. Vintage-looking tuners compete the setup on this stunning instrument.

Precision Bass and Jazz Bass pickup combo offers versatile tone

Giving you the best of both bass worlds, the Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ arms you with tonal versatility. The split-coil P Bass pickup gives you an aggressive, meaty tone, while the J Bass single-coil pickup delivers a crisp, full-bodied sound for a bass that is balanced, versatile, and classic Fender all the way. Bassists at Sweetwater love having a bass like this in their instrument arsenal — it can suit a range of styles and playing situations.

Neck designed for fast, comfortable playing

Made from solid maple with a laurel fingerboard, the neck on Squier's Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ is designed for fast playability and stellar response. The 20 medium jumbo frets provide you with added playing comfort, keeping hand and finger fatigue at bay while producing wonderful tone.

Great bass or a low price--great value

I got this bass for my spouse who LOVES TOOL's bass player, Justin Chancellor. Justin's favorite bass is a Fender '63 P-bass. Well, that is out of budget but this one was perfect as a starting point. I swapped in a mint pickguard and Fender '63 vintage pickups to get as close as possible to Justin Chancellor's #1 bass. My spouse knew instantly that it was meant to copy JC's favorite bass.

Now, I'll be honest. At this price point, Squier doesn't finish the neck's to perfection. But in 30-40 minutes anyone can do that finish work. I sanded the unfinished neck with 5 levels of sandpaper starting with 1000grit up to 10,000 grit. Now, it feels like a gloss finish. Also, I spent a little time to dress the fret ends which took about 10 minutes. The result is a gorgeous bass that feels and sounds incredible.

Did this bass need any mods? No. The neck would play just fine for most beginners. Was it worth the money and the elbow grease? For us, yes. It's now my spouse's favorite bass (out of 5). For such an affordable price, this bass is a bargain--with or without any mods. I took off 1/2 a star only because of the neck. (I also matched the color and mint pickguard on my Squier Tele.)

Very Impressive

This is my first passive 'P' bass. Love the middle pickup. The jazz/bridge Pup isn't terrible, just relatively more quiet. I own many other basses, including some boutique basses costing much much more. As a 'P' type bass , it's really excellent. Very round and smooth sounding with a lot of usable range.
Music background: Multi instrumentalist.

Excellent Bass

I've been playing the bass since 1974, and I've owned some very expensive original brands in my years. There was a time in the eighties when I could afford the most expensive basses in the world and owned four that was custom-made for me. Having said that, over these many decades, I've come to realize a lot of what we think we know about the instrument is shrouded in personal pride and brand recognition. We pay thousands of dollars for something, more because of where it was manufactured and less because of how it looks, feels, or sounds when it's in our hands. I own about a dozen Squire Precision, Jazz, and Jaguar basses made in Indonesia, ranging in price from $299-$499. Each of them is just as good as their Japanese, Chinese, or South Korean cousins and equal to the level of quality made in North America. The only difference I can see is the brand. This bass is a quality work of art. You should be proud to own one of these Squire Affinity basses or guitars, no matter what your level of experience requires. These are darn good guitars.

First off, thank you to Jeff Roeling my sales engineer for outstanding service and for the guitar tech that completed the this pre ship inspection. It's feel is amazing up and down the neck.
