Short-scale Tone Machine

Do you want a bass, but don't want the big stretches between frets? The new short-scale Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II is the instrument for you. It doesn't matter whether you have small hands, or if this bass is for a young beginner, or even if you are a guitar player looking for an easier playing bass, the Jet Bass II has you covered. The 30.3" scale length keeps wide stretches to a minimum. The basswood body and maple neck combine for a warm and detailed sound. If you want big bass tone and a short-scale length, the Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II is for you!

Classic Gretsch looks will turn heads

This short-scale bass is sure to make musicians take a second look. The classic Gretsch Electromatic headstock on the Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II is instantly recognizable. The familiar Jet body shape is comfortable to play and lightweight. You'll love not only the looks but also the feel of the Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II!

Constructed for tone and comfort

You'll love the feel and comfort of the Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II. The lightweight basswood body provides warm, full tone without breaking your back. The strong maple neck and toneful walnut fretboard combine to give you an easy playing bass with warm, clean notes that will sing while you play.

Shorter scale neck is easier to play

The Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II scale length has a lot of advantages, especially if you like bending and a little more trebly, throaty sound. A shorter scale also lets you do things you can't do on your 34-inch bass (at least, that you can't do as easily), like effortless leaps of six frets without changing position, which makes this bass perfect for fast playing. But it's the tone you'll really love.

Gretsch Junior Jet Bass II Guitar Features:

  • Short-scale bass with big tone
  • Dual single-coil pickups provide a deep, organic bass sound
  • 30.3" scale length is perfect for smaller hands and fast fretwork
  • Walnut fretboard has a 12" radius, flatter for faster playability
  • Basswood body is lightweight and comfortable to wear

Great budget bass and an overall awesome tool in the toolbox

You almost can't go wrong with this bass - great tone, great size. Coming from a full-size bass, the short scale give the fingers a little bit of rest from stretching. The intonation was very slightly off but otherwise playable right out of the box. Price/quality to performance, you can't really go wrong here either as a beginner or experienced bassist looking for a short-scale option in your arsenal.

Best Budget Bass for Beginners...

... or anyone, really. I've had this great short scale bass for a few weeks now and it's fantastic. For a $ bass, the quality exceeds expectations: great finish, great tone, and it arrived ready to play out of the box.

The only minor issues I had were that the intonation was off a tiny bit, which is easily remedied, and that the electronics can be a bit noisy sometimes; probably a shielding issue with my specific instrument. I'm going to take it in for a setup soon anyway, so I'll have it checked out.

Overall, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better instrument at this price and I'd recommend it to any beginner bassist or any experienced player who wants something different and unique.

Thanks to Alex at Sweetwater for making sure I was able to get this fine instrument.

Awesome bass

Best bang for your buck whether you're a beginner or a seasoned veteran. This baby rocks straight out of the box! I bought one while I was visiting family so I could practice on vacation. It was inexpensive enough I didn't feel terrible leaving it behind in storage. I liked it so much I bought another one to bang around on when I got home! Thanks Sweetwater!

Short Scale Bass

I just wanted to try a $ bass to see what kind of quality I may get.
I was happily surprised to see a beautiful looking bass. Not to mention the superb action and playability of this short scale bass. Good sustain and a nice tone.
I immediately put of a set of flat wound strings and I was sold after that.
Love this bass. It has replaced my short scale 1971 Eb3 Gibson for now.
Worth the money.

Slab of Beastliness

Let's start with the bad news. As we learned through the big Humbuckergate thing a while back, the mini-humbucker-looking pickups are not actual mini humbuckers. Also, the flat slab body can be a bit unwieldy to play seated, especially if you're on the chunkier side like me.

Now for the good news. Those non-humbuckers? They sound amazing. Punchy, cutting, I get zero noise or feedback off them. Glorious. Then, there's the overall feel. The neck is smooth and fast despite the gloss finish, frets are excellent, ditto on the fretboard, and when standing, the flat body actually works in its favor. Pickup placement is optimal both for tone and versatility, neither getting in the way for fingerstyle, slapping, picking, whatever suits one's fancy. Add to this the scale length that adds a lot of maneuverability over standard while not so short that it feels like a toy, a control scheme that's extremely comfortable for those who might be used to playing guitar and making switching on the fly a breeze, fantastic intonation and harmonics, surprisingly robust sustain considering the construction and price point, having almost as little neck dive as some headless models I've tried, and everything situated so intuitively that my toddler and pre-kindergartener can operate it, and what we have here is possibly the greatest available choice in the price range while sounding and feeling like it could fetch twice as much or more.
