Most scalable case humidifier

In Winter, Northeast location ambient room humidity is in the low 20% range. For my classical guitar in a Humicase, I have 5 Herco's, an Oasis OH-6 Case humidifier and an Oasis OH-1 between the string humidifier.

With the 2 Oasis, I was unable to get the case humidity above 37%. I had the same experience with Bovedas--with 5 in the case!

The Hercos are the only device that has given me humidity control control. I can add additional Hercos as well as control how much moisture each releases. Some folks drill extra holes in the top. I just pop open the lid and store my instruments flat (so the Hercos don't tip over).

I put 4 of the Hercos in the middle guitar case storage compartment---I removed the lid with a razor blase so the humidity can escape to fill the case. This arrangement maintains a humidity of between 45% and 50%. If the case humidity dips into the low 40's, I open one of the Herco lids. Once the humidity is above 45%, I resoak the Herco with the open lid then leave all the lids closed.

It appears that both the case and the guitar require seasoning. A significant amount of moisture is absorbed initially.

For my violins, I have 4 Herco's in each case and follow the same open lid procedure when the case humidity dips below 45%.

goes longer without additional adding of water !!

I have three different humidifiers the other two go dry within a matter of days. The Herco lasts longer ..I also use it in my 5 ukuleles and two guitars ..
Music background: playing ukuleles since Dec . 2020.

Great in Electric guitar cases

I've been using these for years and put one in each of my electric guitar cases. I re-soak it every week or two when the winter temperatures are below freezing. I don't think it's the best choice for acoustic guitars, but it has always been good for keeping fret ends from sticking out on electrics. There are plenty of other choices for acoustic guitars that offer more.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Yuval Fuchs

I'm impressed with this humidifier, which is so easy to use. Just open the lid, immerse it in water for 5 minutes, remove excess water, close lid, and pop it in your guitar case. Repeat once every 2 weeks. No leaks, no messy sponges, no need for pricey distilled water. The best $4 you'll ever spend! Simple!
