Fat, Sizzling Octave Fuzz and ’60s-style Filter FX

Walrus Audio’s Kangra Filter Fuzz is a true-bypass guitar pedal that serves up fat, sizzling octave fuzz along with ’60s-style filter envelope effects. Saturday Night Live guitarist Jared Scharff is a certified fuzz fanatic, and he asked Walrus Audio to design a modern filtered fuzz pedal inspired by his go-to vintage fuzz, the Kay Fuzz Tone. The ensuing collaboration produced the Kangra, which delivered the grit and vintage vibe Scharff was looking for. This roadworthy pedal with modern features and eye-popping Adam Forster artwork was inspired by Jared's trip to the Kangra Valley near the Himalayan Mountains.

Note: The use of an isolated power supply is recommended for powering all Walrus Audio Pedals. Daisy-chain power supplies are not recommended. Power supply not included.

Fuzz

The Kangra's M/V switch lets you select between two distinctly different flavors of fuzz. In the Vintage (V) position, you get a ragged, "spatty" breakup with shorter, gritty sustain that's ideal for single-note lines. Flip to the Modern (M) position for a tighter, more "forgiving" fuzz with longer sustain that lends itself to a wider range of playing styles.

Filter

The Kangra is also equipped with a versatile filter that has Sensitivity, Resonance, Frequency, and Envelope filter controls. Use the filter on its own to sculpt your tone, or flip the Envelope filter switch for funky ’60s-style sounds. About the filter, Jared Scharff says: "I wanted to go for that vintage MCP 3000 lowpass type of thing…without it being too wah pedal like." Guitarists at Sweetwater think the Kangra nails it.

Walrus Audio: built by tone-tweakers, for tone-tweakers

The artists, musicians, and engineers at Walrus Audio take pleasure in chasing sounds that inspire, like the perfect breakup of an overdrive, a beautifully thick distortion, an endlessly sustaining reverb, and a self-oscillating delay. Simply put, they love to play with sound. They design stompboxes that re-create the sonic textures they hear in their heads. Built by tone-tweakers, for tone-tweakers, Walrus Audio's guitar pedals are as versatile as they are functional. Complete with eye-grabbing graphics, Walrus Audio's pedals are the perfect tools for guitarists who want to sculpt their own unique sounds.

Great Filter for bass, and can get some synth tones!

I picked this up to get some funky bass tones, but got so much more! This pedal is extremely useful on bass for those classic envelope filter quacky bass lines. However, engaging the fuzz with the filter provides a very useful synth tone on bass without being overly complicated. In addition to that, you can disengage the envelope and use the pedal as a straight filter for some dubby bass tones.

I love all of the sounds of this pedal!! My only complaint is that the footswitches are close together, and I accidently engage/disengage one of the 2 on accident very often.

Love this thing!

First thing I did when I put on the fuzz and envelope filter at the same time was play the Doctor Who theme and it was perfect! So much fun and I love the soft-switches. Also, what a visually attractive pedal! 11 out of 10, will Kangra again!
Music background: Musical background? Well, I've only ever been in one musical, but I've been playing guitar for 31 years.

The Funkified Fuzz

Dial in some super funky & versatile analog filters with or without a fuzz that is perfect for lead riffs. Pedal exceeded my already high expectations from Walrus Audio. I highly recommend this pedal.

Surprisingly useful

I actually bought this as a novelty, as one would think an esoteric Kay-style fuzz and envelope filter would just be a gimmick. However, the filter side of this pedal is a surprisingly useful tone-shaper when you disengage the envelope. It can cop a screaming treble booster, or if you turn the resonance down a bit, you can cut some bass to tighten up riffs. The resonance and filter are essentially a one band parametric EQ. The filter with the envelop engaged is what you would expect. The fuzz is obnoxious into clean amp, which has its uses, but if you run this into dirt and play with your volume, it's a totally usable fuzz, particularly with the filter EQ'ing as I described above.

This is going to be a mainstay on my board. It's like having a useful EQ, filter, wha (with added expression pedal), and octafuzz all in one pedal space...but it can still freak out to be that one novelty pedal we all need. And it stacks very well with other pedals. Definitely a sleeper. I'm very impressed.

One tip: I think it sounds better with humbuckers

Versatile, Fun, Worth It

This pedal has been my first journey into both wah/filter and fuzz. I'm very pleased with both sounds, as well as the combo. The filter is incredibly versatile, especially with the envelope option -- I don't have an expression pedal, so I haven't been able to experiment with that yet. The fuzz is real dirty -- probably not the best for playing any more than 2 strings at a time, otherwise it gets very muddy. Having the mid scoop and the vintage/modern switch makes it even more useful. Sounds sweet on solos. Highly recommend buying this pedal.
