Built to Shred

The Jackson Adrian Smith SDXM solidbody electric guitar is built for shredding. The Iron Maiden axeman worked with Jackson to spec out his signature model, which sports a lightweight, resonant basswood body to help you sail through marathon gigs without fatigue. You get a fast-action bolt-on maple neck with a compound-radius maple fingerboard and jumbo frets for fluent high-speed soloing. With a high-octane Jackson bridge humbucker and noiseless middle and neck single-coils, this axe gives you massive tonal flexibility, while a Floyd Rose Special vibrato handles your dive-bombs with aplomb. For an amazingly affordable guitar that can do it all, look no further than the Jackson Adrian Smith SDXM.

High-performance design puts you in touch with your music

One of Jackson's mottos is "Choose wisely. Play better." That's not just hype, either. The fact is, a well-made guitar like the Adrian Smith SDXM gives you a closer connection to your music. For instance, the Adrian Smith SDXM features a compound-radius fingerboard, which is more rounded at the nut and flatter higher up the neck. This makes it easy to fret chords near the nut while opening up the fretboard for soloing. The flatter higher frets also let you keep your action low without bottoming out when you bend notes.

For playability, you can't beat the SuperStrat recipe

The Jackson Adrian Smith SDXM is, well, a SuperStrat. Take the most comfortable (and popular) solidbody electric guitar body style, hot rod it with high-end features like a compound-radius fingerboard, and then spec it with top-drawer components (Floyd Rose vibrato, anyone?). The result is a great-sounding axe that drips with playability from one of the companies that put the SuperStrat concept on the map.

Optimized electronics give you a staggering range of tone — with no noise

Jackson's Adrian Smith SDXM sports an electronics setup that stokes your sonic arsenal with massive tonal range. For those chimey, spanky single-coil sounds, you have noiseless single-coils in the neck and middle position — right where you want them. Smoldering at the bridge, you have a muscular high-output Jackson humbucker waiting to do some serious damage. All in, the 5-way blade selector serves up the gamut of (noise-free) tone you could ever hope to elicit from an electric guitar.

Jackson Adrian Smith SDXM Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:

  • Lightweight, resonant basswood body
  • Compound-radius maple fingerboard
  • High-output Jackson bridge humbucker
  • Noiseless middle and neck single-coil pickups
  • Floyd Rose Special vibrato tailpiece

Jackson Adrian Smith SDX

This guitar went WAY beyond my expectations. Frets are all level, super low action with no fret buzz. No pointy frets sticking out. Don't let the Floyd Rose Special scare you away. As long as you take care of it and set it up right, it stays in tune 99.9% of the time. Honestly, I prefer the stock pickups compared to the pickups that are in the USA version (DiMarzio Super D, Fender Noiseless Singles). The bridge pickup has just enough gain to get the signature Maiden gallops, while also having lots of clarity and dynamics when you roll back the volume. Neck feels like a Charvel San Dimas, which is to be expected for a shredder strat like this one. Tuners are very stable. The ONLY thing I would change is the fact you have to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod. This can be quite a pain, so I'd add the thumbwheel truss rod to this instead. Other than that, this guitar is awesome for the price. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this guitar. Whether to play your favorite Maiden songs or use as the main guitar in your band, this guitar is an excellent tool for the job.

Really Good

I've loved Charvel/Jackson since the 80s so the brand was far from new to me. I was in the market for something with a comfortable strat body, a little thicker neck than a typical shredder and an HSS pickup configuration. I would've bought a Mexican strat but I HATE the way the volume knob is in the way of my right hand.

The SDX fit the requirements perfectly! It showed up pretty playable out of the box. I tweaked the intonation a bit and it was good to go. The pickups sound pretty good imo. The bridge is hot enough to use for metal and the mid and neck get some pretty convincing clean strat tones. My only complaint is that the strings are positioned just a bit too close to the edge of the neck on both the high and low E. You have to be a little extra careful to avoid rolling a string off the edge.

Great guitar! Priced just right!

I received this guitar for an early Christmas gift and I'm am very happy overall. Sounds great, the overall playability is there after a few tweaks and a setup of course and I'm loving the neck on this guitar feels like an old strat with a flat fingerboard. Would have given a five star, but 2 neck bolts were not fully tightened. Overall this is a great guitar for the money if you can't afford to spend the big bucks on the US model.
Music background: My husband has been playing for over 34 years.

I Love Jackson, But...

Jackson QC is really going to hell!! Let me qualify my opinion... I've been playing since 1985 and bought my first Jackson in 1987. I also do setups and build occasionally.

Overall I love the guitar and it fills the need I bought it for but I can't ignore all of the issues it has. The switch has been flaky and needs to be flipped a few times to make a proper connection. The volume knob is loose and wobbly, and by far the worst problem is that both the high and low E string are too close to the edge of the finger board. All of these conditions were present on day one.

The bad switch and loose knob are indicators or garbage parts being used. (the knob is the problem not the pot itself. The actual volume pot is ok)

The strings being too close to the edge of the finger board points to poor design choices imo. I don't think the neck they selected has a proper width for a Floyd equipped guitar. You have to fret carefully and use vibrato sparingly to keep from pulling the string over the edge of the finger board. The neck isn't crooked in any way, it's set perfectly. Both strings are evenly spaced but both are too close. It's a bummer.
