Allen & Heath ZED-14 12-channel USB Live Mixer at a Glance:
  • A & H's latest mic preamp technology
  • Personalize your EQ
  • Input variety
  • Easy USB

A & H's latest mic preamp technology
Allen & Heath's latest technology in microphone preamplifier technology is the new DuoPre. The ZED series pre-amps use a two stagedesign, with carefully controlled amounts of gain in each stage.

Personalize your EQ
The ZED series mixers are equipped with a new MusEQ 3-band equalizer circuit on each mono input and a 2-band EQ on the stereo channels. The frequency and response of each MusEQ circuit has been carefully chosen to give the maximum performance when using the EQ on a variety of sources.

Input variety
One of the great things about the ZED series is the number and variety of things you can plug in. In addition to the six mono channels there are four stereo channels, and with the ability to take additional stereo inputs from RCA jacks or from the USB audio input, this flexibility gives you maximum control.

Easy USB
Getting audio to and from a computer easily is now a common requirement for live sound and music production. Allen & Heath make it ultra-easy! No longer do you need to fiddle around the back of your PC to get to the soundcard inputs, only to find that the levels are all wrong and noisy. Just plug in a USB lead to your ZED, select the USB routing on the mixer and the device on your computer and that's it!

Allen & Heath ZED-14 12-channel USB Live Mixer Features:
  • 12-channels
  • Latest technology MusEQ 3-band equalizer circuit on each mono channel
  • Six mono channels
  • Four stereo channels
  • A variety of input options

Well Built Solid Analog Mixer. USB An afterthought

I recently acquired this mixer and for the price it is very good.

I did not use, nor am I ever going to use the USB interface. This mixer is older, A&H have newer ones with modern touches in mind (multi USB i/o, higher end converters, usb 2.0) for podcasting and the like. I wouldn't buy this for the USB at all, I would get their newest Zedi mixers (which stands for Zed interface).

Preamps are pretty decent, I only start hearing noise around 50db of gain, and even then its better than others. Its not like a 5 grand preamp at all, but for the price its good. If you are using an sm7b, you should be good- you would probably be able to use a Y cable on two mono channels to get a good signal as well. I use a low output dynamic, and I clock at a little over 30db. Amazing.

EQ's sound soft and natural, not metalic and vapid.

Its built like a tank, its a lot bigger than what it looks like in pictures.

Routing options are really good. Faders are smooth (they are alps faders too).

It is built like a tank, and the design is old school with modular channels. Everything is mounted to the surface and not to a PCB.

I guess the only thing I can gripe on is lack of compressors, also this model doesn't have effects (although effects on mixers like these tend to be on the low end).

I have an audio interface that I've used for years, and I just connect the mixer via trs jacks, and route audio back and forth. I use effects, and dynamics on a Linux PC, and I use the EQ and faders on this bad boy. Mixdowns, and mastering is quite nice.

If you need an analog mixer, but not a usb interface, for a good price with 14 theoretical channels then this is the one to get.

If you are looking for a mixer, thats an audio interface- then get the Zedi.

If you need a digital mixer, look at the A&H SQ and QU lines.

Allen & Heath ZED-14

I am going to be brief because what I have to say about this board/mixer has been said in previous reviews.

If you need/want routing options for a project studio, podcasting, small band or whatever; this mixer has it. In addition to the flexibility, this board has great mic preamps and long throw (100mm) faders; these three items alone are worth the price which why I bought it. You will not find any other board with these three features at this price point.
Yes, there are some downsides but there is with everything; I focused on the items that were important to me just as you will for what you need.

In earlier reviews people referenced their problem(s) with the built in USB interface; do not let that deter you from buying this mixer. I have not had that problem because I ran one of the many outputs directly into my outboard interface; problem solved.

Just remember; there is always a "Plan B".

Sounds great, fantastic routing capabilities.

I have a home project studio for tinkering around and doing some professional radio spots and television voiceovers. As I have gotten deeper into this and realized I really had under-bought on much of my gear, I have replaced almost all of it with gear more capable of turning out high quality projects.

I just got the Allen and Heath board several days ago. I went into using it in a utilitarian manner, which is to say that I was only thinking of the ease of routing options and ability to do a live monitor, thus avoiding the latency of listening to the track being recorded after being digested and regurgitated through the recording software.

But, without even focusing on it, the clarity and robust sound of the board hit me right square between the ears.

I have replaced a whole chain of equipment with this single unit and latency is reduced, as is noise. I had considered a Yamaha and Mackie but went with this based on a few comments from retail sales people here and there, and my own gut. NO REGRETS, and no buyer's remorse.

I look forward to getting to know this board better and better and am truly excited to get new projects going.

Sonic Zen In An Affordable Package

I recently purchased this Mixer as a part of a major upgrade for my rock band's sound system. We had been using a Behringer 1680s powered mixer and a pieced together main and monitor system. The system worked, but barely.

This mixer is the core of a vastly upgraded system. it is feeding two QSC K12's. The sound is very clean, very low distortion. .00 something THD. The faders are very smooth. The EQ is powerful and voiced in a great range for vocals. Love the sweepable mids. The board has two pre fade aux sends for monitor mixes and two post fade aux sends for effects. It is very well laid out and is very easy to make adjustments to in between songs. My band is very happy with the initial results.

Of equal importance to the quality and price of this product is the service that Charle Davis my sales consultant provided on this purchase. He was very knowledgeable and answered all questions about the board before my purchase. After I received the board he spent a good bit of time on the phone with me making sure I had the board set up and wired correctly with my Lexicon Effects unit. Sweetwater has the best service on the planet. Thank You Charlie!!

A & H Zed 14 NICE Mixer!!

I mainly use it in my home studio with QSC 12 PAs. The USB works fine with my MacBook Pro for example, playing backing tracks. I also connect 4 channels out of my VoiceLive 3 (stereo vocals, stereo guitar) ... And also stereo cables for two more channels from my keyboard. With 12 channels on the unit I have sufficient inputs for all my needs. This unit is sturdy and nice-looking. Simply put ... GOOD QUALITY. I am someone who does a LOT of research before I make purchases, and even the nice quality faders was a selling point for me. It's so nice and simple to use. I am VERY pleased with this mixer.
